z28 NOT IROC wheels

Will the five spoke 15" z28 wheels that are 7" wide w/4.5" backspace fit on my 79 bu w/out the spacers needed for 16" irocs? I have 17x8 wheels now w/4" backspace w/275 tires and they barely clear the frame so I don't see why the 15's wouldn't...

Looking to get some of these for drag wheels/tires and found a set off a camaro for 100 bucks.

Yep, I used to have them before I put the 16" IROC wheels on, fit fine. I ran 225/60/15 on the front and 255/60/15 on the rear. EVERY car is slightly different though, I've heard of people running 275/60 and no issues, but my 255 rubbed on the frame with rear passengers or cornering....HTH

I used to use them a lot on Gbody's. You have to make sure to get '86 and later wheels, because the earlier ones have different offset just like the IROK wheels. If you car is lowered at all or if the suspension is sagging at all it would be best to trim the lip on the tip of the upper control arms in the front or they will get into the wheel on a hard bump etc.... I always ran 215/65-15 on the front, and 245/60-15 on the rear. If The 255/60-15 will fit in the rear, but like was already mentioned, it will rub sometimes on corners or bad bumps.

Matter of fact, I have a pic of this set up on my first Elky SS that I did. This was my first Gbody and it made me fall in love with all Gbody's. It had all new MOOG springs and suspension, and all the F41 bars and whatnot. Mild 350 engine, th350, 3.73 posi rear. And yes, it was a real SS. I did two more of the SS Elky's before switching to Malibu 2-door's.

Anybody ever stuff a 275 tire onto one?

It will work with spacers, if you want to take the chance on them. Would need at least a 5/16" to start with and prob another 1/4" one to keep it off of the frame.
