You don't need a voltage source for the sending unit, just the pump. The gauges are all that need a voltage source there, which you can just use the original source for the gauges for. I'm not sure what amperage is needed for an MSD box.
Pre-post cliffsnotes:
What would you do for a rotating assembly (piece together or buy a kit)?
What clearancing would be needed for a 383?
Someday I will be dropping a small block into the truck... this 4.3 is already causing me pains when I have it floored and everybody & their brother is...
If you already have the motor & setup, I think you'll be much better off using a 700R4 of similar year, all the connections should already be there... besides the mechanical speedo hookup, but you can put in an electric speedo for that 8)
No, that's one thing I didn't do. You can follow two of the traces on the board and find which ones are common, those are + and ground, you just need to find out which ones are which. Whatever stud is leftover on the gauge is for the sending unit. I just used the diagram from the tech portion...
I used some very fine sandpaper, and thought I was being gentle, but it still managed to wear more on the traces than I'd hoped. Another option is to go the route I did (from the pics you saw on GBF). It's not difficult, I double- and triple-checked the traces to make sure I had the right...
I'd definitely be interested in seeing more pictures of this 8) Maybe in the daylight? ;)
PS
I grew up in the Flint area, just moved out here to AZ last year :D Both my cars are still up there :(
If it's a Gen I Vortec (I'm assuming it is since you said it's a 350) it should bolt right up, you'll just need to make sure you have the flywheel for the Vortec motor. Headers will bolt right up, but you'll need a fuel pump that will supply the pressure you need. Personally I think you'll...
Yup, not a single solitary sound now. Now if my new tires would just show up I wouldn't have to worry about the cords that're showing on the front tires.
