I have a line on a 5.3 out of avalanche,but no wiring or sensors or ecm.How much hassle is this engine worth? Thanks

Id pass unless its stupid cheap. 200-300. For just a bit more than the going rate, hold out for a 6.0 that is complete. The little bits will nickle and dime you to death.
5.3 aren't terrible. They make good power but not enough if you're wanting to do more than just cruise around and make decent gas mileage. Other than that, I would look around for a LS1/2 or 6.0.
personally i think they are worth it. Around here you can pick them up for around 400 bucks. With a baby cam i ran 11.85's with a 5.3 in my last project...they cam make power.
There's a thread on pro-touring.com with a guy's buildup on one and he's getting 450hp at the crank. They are usually down about 15 hp from an LS1 with the same mods.
If you plan on doing a full rebuild then you can bore the 5.3 block out to the standard 5.7 bore size.
Also you can have the valve seats cut for the 2.0 in intake valves.
It will weigh more than an ls1 but will still be a good running engine.

Damn Craig! you got the ls bug too!! I finally drove mine friday. Its a 414 ls 6 speed. I need to get some pics. Yr swap looks great...as always brother!
