Might be.
Another common screw-up with a Holley is to put the throttle cable stud in the wrong hole. It goes here:
Everyone wants to put it in the bigger hole just below that, but that's not where it belongs. As you can see, that lower hole has a lot less leverage on the throttle arm than...
I've built quite a few motors over the years. I keep thinking I should try a gear drive. But then I keep asking myself under what conditions would a gear drive work better than a simple quality chain set? I haven't fuond the application yet that required one. In fact, I keep wondering if I...
Agreed. Cutting one "leg" off the A/C bracket and using a spacer is fairly common practice with header installs. If you can make it fit using both "legs", then do so. But don't freak out if you have to chop one off. Not that big a deal.
Looks like a lot fo cylinder head for the money. Edlebrock is one of the few manufacturers I tend to trust their specs (and flow numbers). I guess they finally stepped up from the modest Performer RPM heads into real performance territory. Not that they didn't have real performance heads...
It's not valve seals. You can take that off the list. THose aren't oil dposits and the plug threads aren't wet with oil.
Replace just that plug (might have a bad one) and see if the problem goes away- temporarily or permanently. Definitely check the wire that goes to that plug.
Just remember that those later boxes like the WS6/Trans Am box also use different hose fitting than an early G-body. 38* flare with SAE fitting (early) and double flare + o-ring with metric fittings on the later boxes. When I put an '88 WS6 box in my 78 I also swiped the pump along with it...
Good for you. And great bonding experience with the kids, I'd bet.
I'm not much of a hunter myself but I've been a few times with friends and have one deer to my name. That's gotta be as big a rush for the little guys as it was for you. I was thinking maybe my guys were too young for hunting...
Agreed with above. A stock rear for these cars will have a ratio that's a full point or more taller than your current one. In stock form a 267 V8 car would most likely have had in the neighborhood of a 2.41:1 rear end ratio. No, it won't roast the tires with those gears, but it's like having...
First off, I am not a turbo guy but I seem to be getting there by virtue of all the time I've put into helping my buddy with his single turbo/blow-through Chevelle the last couple years!
We had problems with his "cheap knock-off" X02 wastegate. I won't bore you with the details of our problems...
Typical cool dry place. Leave it in the packaging it comes in until you're ready. I prefer to stand cranks on end, but the manufacturers don't store or ship them that way, so who kknows.
Re: Launch Diagnosis
I can understand why you haven't gotten many replies. Very few people really know what they are doing with suspension. I know a little, but not enough at the level you're playing at.
The combination of stock springs and mismatched shocks plus the general "hodge podge"...
Silly question, but did you use the water pump that matches your accessory system? Old v-belt systems require a standard rotation pump, serpentine systems require a reverse-rotation pump. A bypass only helps equalize temps when the stat is closed. Once it's open there is really no need...
2.29 and 2.41 were very common with the V8 cars. Cars that came with V6s often got gears on the steeper end of the range since they didn't have the torque to pull those wicked tall ones.
Eh......buh buh buh buh...... they are different. I'm not sure why. Bolt pattern, fulcrum arm. I don't remember. They are different is all I know. You won't see the same pump listed for a small block as you will for a big block.
The BODY of the pump might well be the same (most aftermarket...
There is really no way of knowing whether it will leak or not until you have the engine running. If the crank surface where it's touchign isn't grooved and the seal is installed correctly it should not leak. Everyone has their tricks for installing it (offsetting the parting line, putting a...
I asked some guys who build really fast Mustangs abuot that a while back. It's pricey, sure. But when you're laying down really big bucks anyway the cost is not a big factor. Like Tommy said, the engine has to have certain things paid attention to before you use a vacuum pump. Rings and...
IF it's a hot-air style choke (round choke housing on the side of the carb) the upgrade is easy- they sell a kit. Basically a bolt-in of an electric choke element in place of the old hot air element. If it's an earlier style QJet with a manifold-mounted bimetal spring choke coil, no, it's not...
