Drive a certain distance in a vehicle with an accurate speedo. Start out at a gas station, and end at the gas station. Then you'll have an exact mileage, and you can fill up before & after you finish the drive. It'll probably have to be something like 200-300 miles round trip, just to be sure...

Look for the sensors/sending units on the engine, that should get you started. It may also be like the G-Bodies where the dummy lights are wired different from the actual gauges.

Since I had started pricing everything for Vortec heads (heads and intake mainly), I had somewhat abandoned the 383 idea, but it may still be probable. Vortec heads are a lot harder to find here than they were in Michigan, and they're about double what they normally are, so I'm considering...
