That thur sounds like a good ideer! If I can't track a G-Body harness down (I'm sure they're the same for all the TBI-equipped models) I'll probably just do that.

I think the only way I would go hydraulic is with a throwout bearing... then you can run whatever bellhousing you want and not have to worry about the slave, different forks, etc.

I've started thinking of finding a TBI El Camino harness and going with an EBL setup on the '78. I'll have to get another 454 TBI unit for that though, which is probably one of the more difficult to find pieces of any of it (besides the harness) :P

Yeah, I'd say a support cover at the minimum... I'm not sure what else can be upgraded strength-wise on them besides welding the tubes. I'm sure you would break something in the center section before you have to worry about twisting a tube though.

If the plan is to race it regularly, I'd say 400. If you plan on driving it on the street more and love the feel of shifting a manual like many of us, I'd stick with the 4-speed and not worry as much about ET.

Well you paid less for it than you would the pair of axles. If it really is a mild BBC I would try it with the 3.73s, I personally don't think you'd need a set of 4.56s... plus with that much more torque (4.56 compared to 3.73) I think you may be asking for more trouble than you are with the...

I had a stock MCSS steering wheel/non-tilt column in the '81, then stuck in a used Grant wheel out of a regular Monte from the junkyard. It's crooked like you said, but I haven't touched the steering shaft. I'm pretty sure it's the wheel or the mounting kit though, the hole for the horn...

Holy cow, been a while since I've seen you post! :lol: That's the thing... this engine won't be in a truck that's raced, and if it is it will just to see how fast it does 1320'. The torque will be more down low, I'll guess the peak will hit before 3200-3500.

I'll beg to differ on the weight :D I'm sure yours is close to the same, I think the weight on the site is with a 4.3. I'll guess another 50lbs. for a small block, and I'd imagine the NV4500 (is that the right one? I always get them screwed up) is close to a 4L60...

Just spotted this month's Hot Rod tonight. I didn't read too much into it, but there's an article explaining some of the RPO codes, etc. and what would be good. Granted it's a magazine and it's probably to advertise somebody's product, there's still some decent info 8)
