I am wanting to install 12 bolt from an earlier A-body into my 79 malibu. Do I need to relocate the spring perch from the front of the axle tube to the top center of the axle tube like the factory 7.5?
I do not see it being a huge issue per say... But if you want it absolutely right ...but again the whole rear ain't right...lol. same with the shock mounts too. the angle help cut down on the angle bind where it mounts to the chassis.
i was sort of wondering that myself. i've found a guy locally who has a 12 bolt from a chevelle and he relocated the lca mounts and spring perches to the stock g body locations. i wondered why, since everyone has said that you can bolt that rear right into a g body and only need the uca's made for the swap to do so.
Obviously the correct way to do it is to relocate the brackets to the same location as the 7.5 rear. Thats not so say it won't work as is, but things may be in a bind. I would definately move the spring perches so the springs would set straight.
Put a 12 bolt in my elky using TRZ's upper & lower arms with heim joints on everything but the rear of the upper arms. They had boxed ends with a bearing that allowed it to rotate. Installation was a snap. Oh yeah, had to run 6 1/2" b.s. wheels with thin spacer.
