Buy a good used 7.5 inch 26 spline posi, There are two styles the Auburn (cone type) and the Eaton (Gov/loc) .Me I would buy and run any one of these in my car.

ok kool. i found this one, but what i dont understand is the one i need. It list two for the 7.5. One for 3.23 gears and up, and the other for 3.08 and down. My truck came from the factory with 3.08 gears but i want to change them to 3.73. So what one would i have to get? Sorry if i sound dumb, Im clueless when it comes to rear end parts

when i had mine i went with an auburn pro series carrier and the 3.23 and up. and i went with a set of 4.10, and never had a problem. use a rear end conditioner with it so you dont get chatter.

You would want the 3.23 and up one if your going with 3.73's

I have a detroit true trac here NEW for 325.00 if you want it. Comes with bearings and races already pressed on and ready to go. We do not build the 7.5 rear much anymore. If you can put it to use let me know.

26 spline 3.08 and down and you can use thick 3.73 gears too. 3.73 thick gears are 159.00 NEW

Just PM me if you have any interest in these. We are cutting the stock on the 7.5 gears and posi units.

I know they're not as cheap, but I'm running a Powertrax No-Slip Locker for my 7.5"...

I love it, under power, it's like a solid axle, but when you turn, it just disengages, takes a little getting used to, but I wouldn't want to mess with a Posi unit... I hear the clutches can where out over time and then there's the posi fluid you have to use. I don't want to discourage you, but I love mine and probably wouldn't run anything else.
It's especially fun when you want to burnout, or fishtail, or just do some doughnuts... not a hint of one-tire-fire...
Plus, it will last longer than my rear end will, this thing is strong. And just holding it in your hand before you install it makes you feel powerful, it's a sweet piece of engineering.
When I bought mine, about 5 years ago, it was about $365 from an off-road company online I found when I searched for it, which was cheaper than Summit at the time. It looks like it has gone up since then, just like every other metal product, but I would say it's all worth it.

Why not go with 28 spline axle and posi unit?
End the failure problem. The posi unit will cost the same(new). Aftermarket axles run aroun $275-300. Get a used one from an F-body (Camaro or Firebird) 1993 up. I think* the Astro vans have the 28 spline axles (like half ton pickups, suburbans, and Grand Nationals) with a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8's.
