OK to start this off i am by no means a transmission guy. So if i sound cluless then its because i am!

My father (car genius) passed away almost two years ago and his truck had some tanny issues (wore out). His truck is a 1974 Chevy LWB with a built 355 mated to a 700R4 w/OD. The issue is that the transmission was rebuilt by a transmission shop and it wont kick into passing gear when floored now. I think i know why but have no idea if I have to buy a certain year kickdown cable. The current kickdown cable is from his TH350 that was in there before it was swapped for the 700R4 (80's IROC). I recall my dad having a horrible time getting it to shift right and kick into passing gear when floored (too cheap to buy another cable I suppose). So im not sure if I am barking up the wrong tree or if I am on the right track. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

The cable on a 700r4 isn't just a kick-down cable. It controls line pressure, shift timing shift firmness etc. I'm surprised that with a th350 cable it didn't burn up immediately .

X2. And if the 700R4 cable isnt hook up right it can and will fry the transmission.

I have a 700r4 in my 76 gmc shorty,it took me a while but I had to make a bracket and a lot of adjusting to get it to work properly. As far I know when floored its not supposed to stay into OD.The OD is only for crusing.Mine kicks out of OD at almost all the way to the floor.Everyone I have talked to has said the same thing. My transmission is out of a astro van and is totally stock.

He had the transmission in with a 2200 stall and it had a shift kit put in it. Thing shift good but something is off. I guess I will start by getting the right cable and see how it plays out from that point on.
