There is a 8.5 rearend forsale out of a oldsmobile i believe that i can buy locally. The rear is not posi, it is an open rear. I have little knowledge to begin with about rears so i dont know if my idea will work. i was wondering if i can just buy an eaton posi unit or even a stock posi unit for the 8.5 and will the posi unit slide right in or do i need more parts for it to work?? I plan on up grading the axles and putting different gears in it anyways, so if i needed to change any of those items i am anyways.

The only reason i ask this is because im trying to save myself some money in the long run. If i buy and gn rear or a t-type rear i wanted to rebuild it anyways so it can hold some power. I figured buy the open rear for less money i would be saving myself some cash if it will work. Thanks guys for all the help

Yes, you can put a posi unit in and you'll be good to go.
