dumb rearend question

I have a dumb question but curiosity is getting the best of me.
Why can't you take a 12 bolt out of a chevy truck with the 8.875 cut it down 4 inches and get some plates and make them fit under a malibu just leave your stock torque arms bolted up in the car andweld your new plates to your axle
I know it's alot of work but travelling over the road for your job gives you plenty of daydreaming time :-k

No reason you can't but you haven't gained a lot of strength, the pinion diameter of the truck 12 bolt is the same as a 7.5".

Yup, what he said....
The truck 12 bolt is nothing like the passenger car unit, it's way weak, plus welding the UCA mounts to a cast iron case is a tricky deal as well.
