87 suburban 454

i have an 87 suburban with a 454 and th 400 trans i want to rebuild it on a budget and give good performance i have plans to put it in my 83 cutlass remember iam not rich its on a budget of $1200 what can i do with it and what parts i need

and how much nitrous can the stock pistons handle :mrgreen:

First thing is the heads it probably has "peanut ports" they don't make good power. If trying to save money find a set of closed chamber heads and reuse your stock short block. Get a aluminum intake and a new cam I prefer solid lifters. I have run a 300 shot on a stock 72 402 with cast pistons but I didn't care if it blew or not. I ran a 200 or 250 shot alot on it and never had any problems other than stock rocker arms and push rods.

how big can i go on the cam with stock heads and do anyone have any cam and intake combos they perfer me to run

Stock heads or stock heads with new valve springs? I would call some of the cam companys and they will recomend a cam.

i have a set of open chamber big port (virgin) heads GM , brand new eaton stanles steal valves -2.19/1.88 .
no springs. for $600.00 or best
can get pics.
