Sorry to do my broken record imitation but---if one is bucks down, a 7.5" can be made to handle moderate amounts of power if you're not spraying or using a clutch. I have about 500 passes with burnouts on my setup to date with 1.55-1.65 60 feets. The recipe is 28 spline Moser c-clip axles($235), a 28 spline Gleason-Torson posi which came stock in LS1 equipped F-bodies($140 ebay), and an aluminum support girdle($140). This can handle about 400 RWHP behind an automatic which is about 500 flywheel hp. Of course, it's better to go big which gives room to grow and peace of mind but is a $2000 pill to swallow.

i want a 9" from QP so bad in mine too, but not in the budget right now. best part for me is they are only five hours away. that would make a nice little road trip on a saturday.

Speedway motors has the best deal I have found on a bolt in 9", and I have talked to quite a few people that have them and they love them. And a friend of mine is running one in his 80 street/strip wagon with out any issues and I think he has had it for atleast 2 years now, and has right at a $1,000.00 or less in it.
