So I figured I'd ask the experts what I should do. I just got a 98 S10 4x4 ext cab from my parents. They go to Florida in the winter so there is no rust at all on it. Only been driving it for a few days now, but it seems like a dog. It has 3.73 gears. I did a tuneup on it about 30k miles ago, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all GM parts. Tying to figure out what I can do to help it out a little. I'm thinking, an "air intake kit" (even though I dont really like them), a cat back exhaust, an accel coil, and some 1.6 ratio self aligning roller rockers. I dont expect it to be a rocket, just need a little more. The big problem seems to be the exhaust though. I can't find a stainless steel one for an ext.cab 4x4. I found a Flowmaster, I kinda wanted to try a Magnaflow, but I really need/want a stainless system though so it doesnt rot off in 1 year. I used to have a 95 GMC Jimmy 4x4 and installed a Dynomax cat back kit, it helped alot and that thing moved. But it only lasted about 1 1/2 years and had holes in it. Do you think I'm on the right track?

Yeah, it helps, about another 6 months or so. I dont care about the price difference between regular and stainless, I cant even find a stainless one though curse_sign.gif

Try the locol phone book for a locol muffler shop that has stainless mufflers and pips.stainless is hard to work with (bend ,weld )so might take some looking.

Cold air kit helps a bit. Got a bit more low end on mine by cutting off the restrictor plate on the throttle body blade.

If its a dog, there is probably something wrong. These are usually pretty snappy engines with a good amount of torque. Check fuel pressure, and leak down. The 96-up SCPI injectors have problems too. Also Intakes leak so check for seepage.

It's probably not as bad as I'm making it sound, runs smooth, just seemed to lack oomph. I put a "cold air intake" on it. That did help power and mileage actually. I've also got a set of 1.6 roller rockers to put on but have been told by some they wont fit under the factory plastic valve covers. Any one sure they will or wont? I'm going to wait until the factory exhaust rots off to replace it with a better one. Not alot of money to throw around right now.

I have comp cams 1.6 roller rockers under my plastic valve covers, you just cant use polylocks... Use the nuts that came with the rockers.

But the magnums are the cast rockers right? I got a set of aluminum full roller rockers. Do you think they'd fit?
