Brake line length

When running new front and rear brake lines, do the left and right side lines have to be equal length or does it really matter? In what case would I need to use a proportion valve?

BTW I have stock front disc, rear drum brakes.

Oh really? I wasn't sure b/c of the "coils" of brake line before it goes into the master cylinder. I thought it may have been to make up for one section having a shorter path from the caliper to the MC.
Well in that case then, it doesn't matter how long or short one or the other is, the brake pressure to each wheel would be the same right.
