Will I hurt my transmission with the lock up NOT hooked up in my 700-r4 transmission? I was told to do this I need a converter conversion valve from Transgo, part # 7-ccv,. Can a Non-transmission guy install this???
It's easy, remove TCC solenoid, remove snap ring holding TCC lockup valve. Replace with Non-lockup valve, may need to remove check valve ball in end of Trans Input shaft depending on which kit you use. I don't think it's neccesary w/TransGo kit.

Long freeway use can cause overheating in O/D with TCC not locked..
Jbreu, I ran across this on PATC's site: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700r4.htm
On 1982, 1983 and early 1984 transmissions the transmission will burn up if the torque converter doesn't lock-up. The wires don’t have to be hooked up on a 1985 up transmission.
Aparently the early 27-spline Input Shaft & Stator Support have different flow pattern than the newer 30-spline. There may be other things such as Valvebody, TC lockup clutch material & style that affect this.
