What the heck? I remember there used to be a sticky that was a step by step, a how too, for disk brakes.

My 8.5" is totally appart right now since I powder coated it and instead of reassembling with drums, if cost efficent, I would love to put disks on it (with E brake). Only problem is I am very limited for "car knowledge" and I am looking for a very basic write up. Get part X, Y, and Z and assemble like so...

The kits for 1200 to 1500 just don't seem worth it to me so I was looking for somehwere in the price range of $300 to $500.

There are a couple of kits I have found. I would like to keep my parking brake, kind of think its a bit ghetto to delete it. Here are a few links I have found, anyone with feedback??

I also found these 2 links while using the search option but I have no idea what I am doing or what to make of them...

This may even help you for installing but alot of 81 and older Trans Am's came with rears disks. For my car I just bought a TA rear for 100.00 and will use all the brake stuff off of it. It has the correct style calipers so you can keep the E brake. I also got the master cylinder set up too for the conversion.

One plus for me is I now have an extra carrier and ring and pinion from the 8.5TA rear also.

I remember seeing something a couple years ago about using the brakes from a heavier car and the Proportioning valve. I can't remember what has to be changed to make it right on a Malibu so I'll have to research it before I put the brakes on.

I have a rear disc conversion currently on my 8.5 rear that is brand new it is a kit ftom MP brake down in NC..I think I paid somewhere in the area of 700- 800- for the setup I am looking to get rid of it if interested. The only thing I might not have are e-brake cables but I know they are in the garage and can dig them up...let me know if you have any interest in it ..Thanks Sal
