I broke one in three passes with a high 12 second car that weighed around 3000 lbs.

Some good info on this thread. I'm getting ready to build one of these in the next few weeks to put in my 79 Bu. Carrier and 3.73 gears from an 87 Camaro,Moser axles and a mini spool.

i wish i would have taken pics of the mini spool i twisted up during the 250 miles it lasted on the street (with 6 or so passes during that time). it wasn't the part that officially let go (axle broke), but it was well on its way.

My 7.5 has been in my Bu for 5 years with a used Auburn Pro Carrier, Richmond 4.11's and Moser Axles, Been doing fine until I found a cracked cone, I put in a GM G80 Auburn "style" Posi to be on the safe side,,,,,,BUT,,,, Here are a couple of pics of what could happen, 3 test burnouts on my street, 1 burn out in the box at the track and smashing the gas on the last amber light,,, $300 down the crapper and not even 1 run at the track. Needless to say, I put my 5 year old Auburn back in with the cracked cone and it is doing fine. I would NOT use a GM G80 posi if you are putting more than 300-325 HP to the wheels!!! This could be you!  A mini spool MAY be O.K.,,, I have not tried one and don't plan on it. My next investment will be an 8.5 GN rear.

I don't have a GM posi. I only paid $50 for the carrier, gears and mini-spool. Thats why I bought good axles. I would like to buy a Lock-Rite to put in it but keep hearing different stories.

$50 is a smokin' deal! What kind of HP are you making at the motor? Guys on here run a spool on the
street with little or no problems. You should be good as long as you are not making any serious HP.

In my opinion, you are on the "border line" of the 7.5 with spray,,,,,, Hang on to your n**ts and cringe
every time you launch it!!
