it's gunna be a long drive from Vancouver to Mission man with 4.56's, 4.10's from Surrey to Langley was bad enough, you would safely wanna cruise at around 80kmh and I personally wouldn't do that on the #1

I live pretty close to the track but i still want the car to be some what street able.[/quote]

Oh, I thought you were actually in Van City, not all that bad then

I had 4.10 gears in a posi rearend in my 86 Trans Am but ran a 700r4, even with the overdrive i was @ 3000RPM doing 100km/hour. In my 86 Monte Carlo i have a TH400 with big block that maxes out at 6200RPm and i put in a QP 9" rearend with 3.70 gears all around good gear and ill be able to take advantage of all the torque that i produce.

I'd really advise against going with 4.56 gears. It doesn't sound like your engine is built to run in the 6500-7000RPM range. And thats right where you will end up with those gears. Plus the less your motor turns the longer it will last. Go with 3.73s if you really want to be as quick as you can be at the track. I'll bet any lower and you go slower. Even with the 3.73s you won't like it on the highway.

I had a Camaro years ago with 4.88's in it,it was fine on 35mph roads or blasting from 0 to 95,had a balanced and blue printed 327 in it and I'd bury an 8 grand tach all the time with those gears, eventually blew it up! Imagine that!!! Later,KillerDave

I had 3.73s in my Monte when I had my 406 in it. I used 26" tall slicks and 28" tall street tires. It was OK but with no overdrive it was almost painfull to highway drive. (especially if a Mustang passes at high speed and you want to catch them without RPMing your engine to death...lol) When I switched to the 8.75 Dodge diff I went with 3.55s and my ETs went from 13.0s to 12.7. With my big block and spray the 3.55s work great. I wouldn't go any lower than 3.73s if you want to drive it on the street at all. Your 406 will like to pull again the gear anyway. 3.42s would work for you too.

that's what i want. a 12 second street car. how was your 406 built? i mean what rod, cc piston, heads, intake, cam, carb, ect?? i am gathering info for my 406 build and i would love to here anyone's .02
thanks.
