Head bolts??

Which year did they change for the 5.3 engines, I heard 03'/04' was the split. Also how can you tell what year your engine/heads are? I know one is a 02' but I have no idea about the other one. Concerning the longer/shorter head bolts what is the difference, is it in the heads or is the block tapped deeper? I know these are a lot of questions but with the wealth of knowledge here, I think you guys and gals will not have a problem sharing the correct answer.
