I bought a 8.5 10-bolt yesterday that is said to be out of a 1984 or 1985 Olds 442 with 3.73's & open carrier.I measured it before I bought it and it's the correct width for a G-body but,I did numerous searchs of the numbers off the axle tube and center section and can't find anything to identify it.I checked Olds sites,Buick sites,Googled the numbers various ways and find nothing. One thing that is making me wonder about it is,I've got a new rear disk-brake kit I want to use on it when I put
it back together.I just noticed this morning that the axle ends don't have a typical,4-bolt flange the backing-plates bolt to.
It's got a rectangle flange that has 2 small bolts at the bolt and looks like 1 large bolt, centered at the top and a cut-out to
allow for the brake-line to get to the wheel cylinder. It has 6 TFG 344 on the axle tube and 14075742 on the center section.
Can anyone help me identify this rearend, please? I drove 2 hours there and 2 hours back and I'm going to be pissed if I got
something other than what I was told it was.I know it's a 8.5 but,it seems strange that I can't find anything by Googling or
checking all the other Olds/Buick sites I went on that had ways to identfy differentials. Now this axle flange has me thinking
something isn't right about this.I'd appreciate any information that'll help identify this rearend before I spend more money on it.Thanks in advance for any help you can provide."Merry Christmas and Happy New Year". Bob
