I'm thinking about "beadlocks".

Educate me on "Beadlocks" for tires and rims! How do they work and will they work on a 15x9x5.5 Weld Draglite with 28x10.5 M/T slicks? I've already spun the rims in the tires before and want to eliminate doing that again.

I've already tried the "screw" trick but that just left nasty holes in my rims and a tire that needs sealer around the bead to keep the air in them. :roll:

Beadlocks are only designed to work with particular wheels. The ones you see for drag racing usually have the flat bead, the ones you pictured are sometimes used for the circle track stuff. The only real advantage over regular rim screws is the additional clamping force from the outside, you may still contend with the same leak problems, and the wheels are NOT cheap.

Tubes and screws or screws and tire slime (the green stuff). A friend of mine runs his ET streets with screws and tire slime, no tubes. It doesn't screw up the tire balance or anything.

The majority of the wheels used in drag racing that are converted to bead locks are likely done by this company.

Keep in mind that adding bead locks on mid to lower powered cars could slow the car down from added reciprocating weight. Most of the times they are limited to real high powered cars using low tire pressures.

I've seen my tires slip an inch or two, but after a few runs they stop spinning. No need for rim screws...sorry I drilled mine several years back.

How the tire is mounted is one trick to keep them from spinning.

before you pop the bead ove on a new tire, wipe some VHT on it.... i havent done this, just an idea.

One the tire is over both beads, take a good quality brake cleaner (the flammable kind) and spray/wipe all of the soap off of the rim and the tire, this will eliminate 90% of tire slipping when you are running the correct air pressure (not less than 13 with a 28x10.5 on an 8" wheel). We have been 1.35 to the 60ft with this method and the tire not moved even a 1/4". If that trick fails there are other methods to prevent the tires from spinning without rim screws and without beadlocks.

Just remember, no bead lock wheels are DOT approved. shouldn't be a problem unless the police need something to get you for.
