Need some help here guys, I cant figure out which one of these cams is more performance oriented.
GMPP Gen3 Hot Cam(219`int/228`[email protected]",.525"int/.525"exh)

Next is the stock LS6 cam(218`int/204`[email protected]",.550"int/.550"exh & 117.5` lobe separation.

The HOT cam would be my choice. The LS6 cam was produced as a facotry stock cam. Nothing special about it. The beauty of the LSx motors is that all they need to put out big numbers are a cam and matching valvetrain.

I'm confused because the Hotcam has a smaller lift rate than the ls6 cam but I dont understand the numbers as far as the lobe separation goes and the int/exh degrees.

Plenty of proven cams for these motors, what are you goals? TR224 is a great cruiser cam, TREX, MS3/4, G5X3/4 cams are all high end cams. Z06 cam is good for a mild turbo setup.... ?

Keep in mind, the hot cam is all bark and not much bite. It sound big, idles like crap and isn't really that big. Its an old school cam for a new school motor. Their are new cams that are WAAYYY better than the hot cam. I would go with an ls6 cam over the hot cam any day. The only plus is that it doesn't require much in the valve spring department, it has very slow ramp rates.

If you want cheap i would look for a used cam on LS1tech.com or a similar website. I picked up my TR220 for a very good deal used and its awesome.

Thats why im looking to the community here for advice on which one is better. I also forgot to mention that the Hotcam has a 112` center lobe versus the LS6 117.5`. It has me puzzled because besides from the lift numbers I dont understand the rest of the cam speech. The Hotcam cost more than the LS6 but the LS6 has more lift. WTF is that about?

Local guy had it and put down awesome 1/8th times back in the day. Look into a TR224 and thank me later, I think .581 lift, 112 for a nice lump idle, and rock out.... or see whats used cheap... I went with the G5x3 because a local guy swears by it, and knows how to tune it. 112 has an awesome sound, kinda border line daily driver depends what you like.

What are the goals of the car. I woudn't run either of those cams. Much better options with better lobes than those two out of date cams. TR 224 isn't bad. I have some better choices. What is the Max rpm of engine. Where do you want' peak power to occur and what shift point do you want. Include trans type/ convertor/ gear and tire combo. Also what is the weight of car. Maybe I can help you out with selection. Bigger isn't always better. Some of the big LS1 cams drive like crap and will lose alot of torque down low. On the stock cube stuff in a heavy car I like to keep the IVC (intake valve closes) around 42-46 degrees that will give you a high DCR and keep low end torque good.
