being that t-56's cost an arm and a leg and i already have a beefed up t-5 settup. whats involved with adapting a t-5 to a 5.3? i heard the bellhousing should work minus one hole. what flywheel, clutch, pilot bushing would i use. and also it would need to have computer tuning for the speedo cal, and removing the 4l60e, correct?

For the flywheel/pilot I would get one for running any other pre-LS manual, and get the correct size clutch for the LT1 trans. Thought about this myself in the past. I may just look for whichever I can find at the best price when I actually have the money, and get the appropriate flywheel, etc.

If you have an LS-specific one. I haven't done any research, but with all the other things out for LS motors, I see no reason why there isn't one (or 5) already being produced. I'll do some lookin', got some free time :D

One link I've found so far:

I've seen mention of others, but it appears to be pricey ($500+) at first look... I'm going to see if I can find out what I'd need to run my 3-speed, otherwise I'll just find a cheap 200R4 for now and some deeper gears.

*EDIT*
More links, might update more...

Some said they've run the fine-splined clutch designed for the LS, the only major difference overall is all '01+ LS motors have a .400" deeper pilot, not allowing for proper bushing engagement as you would have with a typical SBC. Found a Lakewood housing designed for older GM transmissions (no T56):

Looks like it'll be over $300 easy for it though (upside is it's SFI approved) :?

Looks like I'd be finding myself an auto to run... I'd have to come up with my own bracket for the clutch Z-Bar I believe.
