So this is the correct orientation of the linkage if I’m understanding everything correctly? The brake pedal sure is making it tough to get it in place, assuming I don’t have it screwed up

Here is a picture of the upper pushrod in my Monte Carlo. You can see which way it penetrates the bellcrank.

Without climbing under the dash, I feel the longer part connects to the bell crank because it has to reach the firewall, go through the boot, and then connect to the bellcrank.

Yep, you were right. Finally got it in. I had it in wrong at the start then had some trouble getting the pin through the pedal end but eventually held my mouth just right and it went. I’m starting to realize I’m not a spring chicken anymore after laying there all twisted on the floor of the car trying to move around under the dash. Starting to make me sore!

Something that I found kind of interesting, I took the glovebox back out and carefully removed the radio delete plate so I didn’t break it. I was tracing the wire that comes through the plate that’s covering the hole in the firewall where the AC used to be. There was an antenna wire under the dash. No antenna on the car and as mentioned radio delete from the factory. My dad was wondering if the radio delete plates are easy to come by

I’m definitely keeping the delete plate in tact. I almost decided to leave it in place since it didn’t want to come out very easy. Cigarette light was binding it up

We’ve been doing some searching online at steering column parts and reading old posts on multiple sites. I need the lower bowl for sure and my brother said the key lock/lever might be screwed up in mine too. If I’m correct we’ve been looking around for 83-85???? S-10 bowls. Is the key lock pretty complicated?

What part are you referring to as a bowl? The part between the shroud and the lock housing?

The lock cylinder is attached by a single screw.

Looking at these pictures (from a current eBay listing), which parts are broken? I can look them up in my parts book and let you know what the part numbers are and what vehicles those parts came in. I suspect S10, late 70s F body, and perhaps Monza and Chevy pickups may share the same parts. Nova may be different.

I added an exploded view of a similar column for a Monza (H body). my parts book doesn't have one specific to the A body. The A body and H body columns are of a similar design, so should be able to reference it to identify the parts you need to replace. The part numbers for the Monza may not be the same, so don't look up those parts. Let me know what parts are broken in the diagram and I will look up the correct part numbers for you.

If you still have the column, start taking it apart to identify what is broken rather than guessing at what you might or might not need. Take pictures and lay things out as they were removed so you can put it back together.
