I'm not exactly a new member but its my first post on the forum.

I'm trying to build a small block to run low 12's or high 11's on motor and after all motor I'm planing to put a little nitrous on the motor maybe a 250 shot and nothing more to maybe run high 10's. I have already acquired some parts and I don't know what heads to buy. I'm crossed between a 200cc world sportsman2 and a set of dart pro1 215's. And i dnt know what size converter to get (i think something right around 3000 stall).

i have the following for my build already:
part numbers are from summit racing.

gm forged 3.48 stroke crank.
Eagle h-beam 5.7 rods. ESP-5700B3D
keith black forged pistons with 2 valve reliefs. UEM-IC9929-030
350 30 over 010 020 4 bolt block standard deck height.
Lunati cam. 246 dur @050 and 0.515 lift on a 108 lsa. LUN-00012
Weind team G intake. WND-7530

And im planing on buying a holley 750dp carb.

The car is going to be street driven mostly and a weekend car. Its going into a full weight 85 monte carlo ss. It has a turbo 350 trans with a shift kit in it now and a 373 posi rear. All the help will be well appreciated.
This will be my first actual car build. Im doing all the work myself. Thanks for the help guys.

I wouldn't go over 200cc runner volume (more like 180 to 190) and I am not a big fan of the sportsmans 2. Stay with a 64 camber head which should have you around 10/1 and good on pump gas.

As lilbowtie says, stay away from sportsman II's. i run darts and am very happy with them, go with around a 4000 stall. A 200 cc runner from dart would be good or if you go afr a set of 195's would be right up your alley.

with a standrard deck height and a 64cc head and a .039 head gasket you'll be far from 10.1 comp... 1 of 2 things either "0" deck the block or cut the heads to 60cc,,get the compression up to 10.5-11.0 compression on pump 93 gas..Also get a set of dart heads in the 190-195 size runner as with the cam you've choosen you won't be twisiting the motor over 6500 rpms some make all the power down low to mid range..Get the most out of it now.. 8)

Static Compression Ratio Calculator

4.030 Bore inches Diameter of cylinder
3.48 Stroke inches Distance piston moves
.040 Head Gasket thickness inches Measure your head gasket tthickness. It's usually 0.040", but not always...for example, on K1200 BMWs it is 0.070". On 113/135" ORCA motors it is 0.00 because they use metal seals and no head gaskets.
.020 Deck Height inches Move piston to TDC, and measure the distance between the flat top surface of the piston (not the top of a dome or the bottom of a valve relief) and the top of the cylinder. Enter a negative number if the piston's flat surface sticks up past the top of the cylinder. At TDC the piston will "rock" so be careful in your measurements. ORCAs are .035".
3.7 Piston top volume cc's You'll have to calculate this value the hard way i.e. do it yourself or call the piston manufacturer. Enter a negative number for a domed piston. Enter a positive number for a dished or dimpled piston. If you have a flat piston with no valve reliefs enter 0.00.
64 Combustion Chamber cc's Get out your 100ml burette, your light, non-nasty grease, your handy dandy plexiglass or lexan sheet, your Marvel Mystery Oil and a six pack and get ready to party. Don't forget to cc the combustion chamber.

Static Compression Ratio: 10.06

Well I've figured money is some what tight again and I want to get this project going so I was looking at Patriot performance heads in the 190cc range. they have a bow blend. check them out on summit racing the part# PAR-2181. They seem like the right choice for my budget and i have a friend that ran a set on his Ls1 with good results. So if i have the heads cut to 60cc's ill be back in the 10-1 compression range.? Thats where i thought id be with out having them shaved.

Does anyone think a 108lsa on the cam is to tight to run a 250 shot in the end.? Thanks for the help.

If your gonna hit it with the bottle you will want a lobe seperation of 112-114

Depends on how often are you gonna spray the motor..??? If just acouple times here and there then a wider lobe sep isn't needed.. Also gotta realize your not gonna be turning any serious rpms and with adding NOS your powerband is gonna come in quicker and exit just as fast with the rpms..

Well I was going to use the nitrous only a few times for a good few runs through out the year, no more than maybe ten times just for the added fun. And the bottom end was gonna be a building block for me to just be able to go with bigger heads and cam later on down the road.
