I've been reading around about rears for a little bit and when the time come's I don't know if I should try and get a 8.5 or build the 7.5.

I know everyone says junk the 7.5 but I don't know how much power they make.

I want my car to be around the low 13s, and it will be a street car maybe a weekend or to at the track.

I'm not real worried about it right now as I'm a ways away from a bigger motor, just curious.

I ran a 7.5 rear w/ an auburn posi for 3 years in the low 13's before switching. When I took it out the gear lube had a lot of metal in it - the spiders were going. If your going to put any money into a 7.5 it would be better spent on something else. If you have 7.5 ready to go - run it.

Save the dough for a rear end that was designed for something a little more stout than a Vega 4 cylinder...

The standard Vega came with a 6.5-inch rear. The Cosworth Vega came with a 7.5-inch rear.

The Monza came with 7.5-inch rear starting in 1976(?). A 1975 V6 Skyhawk still had a 6.5-inch rear and small rear brakes.

Haha I think I'll take this advice.

I was reading about 8.5s and read that the drive shaft will need to be shortened, would this apply to a wagon?

1200 is a little on the high side.

Thinking about an 8.8 swap. Found kits on baselinesuspensions.com.
Do I need the uca/lca kit?
And what is the width compared to my stock 7.5?
Anything else that would need to be done?

Thanks, Aaron!
