My 81 El Camino is no race car for sure, just about 260 hp,a four speed manual and 3.42 posi gears.I put urethane bushings in the rear control arms, decent shocks, everything is as it should be nothing bent or damaged or cracked. The motor and transmission mounts are also new urethane pieces. No rear sway bar,the rear springs are new Moog's that are noticebly stiffer than the original spings. The rear end sits at stock ride height.
If I spin the rear tires hard, something I rarely do,it's ok.But let's say I jump on the gas in first gear on a dirty road surface that'll allow the rear tires to spin a little, the rear axle hops around.
Is this typical especially with an El Camino's light rear end?
I noticed the rear controls arms are sort of flimsy, does boxing the arms help?
I can live with this, and don't want to redesign anything or get into hi dollar after market control arms.Just wondering if there's something I can do with pieces of steel and a welder
