have remote solenoid hooked up on my car.
but my problem is sometimes it will crank fine.other times it will grind on flywheel.and my favorite it will not stop cranking. i have replaced starters 3 different times played with shims couple days to no avail.
could this possibly be a ground problem from remote solenoid?
any help would be appreciated

Starter help

It has to be a starter alignment issue. The only reason a starter will stay cranking once the power is off to the solonoid is that it is too tight to the ring gear and binds. If the starter drive can't return freely back out of the extended position the power terminal stays pushed in the solonoid and battery power stays connected to the motor. This keeps it spinning even after you have released the key. Try some of the shims that only shim half the starter and try a couple on the inside bolt. This moves the starter more than the full shim. Good luck .
