I have the front of my 82 Regal apart and am thinking of upgrading the steering system. Figure to go with a cherokee steering shaft but while I'm at it should I change out my power steering box.

I have a remote pump to install so I don't want to switch to manual. Just wondering if there is something stronger, lighter or better ratio??

Newman, A manual box is lighter, but since you're not looking to go that way you might want to look at some aftermarket boxes and see how much they way. Just a thought. My stock power steering box weighed 32 lbs. when i took it off.

An "XH" box from an IROC/WS6 Trans Am has roughly 2- 1/2 to 2- 3/4 turns lock-to-lock, & has the steering stops set for 16" wheels so you won't rub your tires if you upgrade wheels. It's a "high effort" box, too so it doesn't have the classic overboosted feel of some stock boxes.
