Unless your Carb is older than 1992 it will have a Check Valve that prevents the Power Valve from blowing during a backfire through the Carb.

Really dont think its the Carb to be honest. Car ran just fine when I had to take the intake off thinking it was a bad lifter when in reality it wound up being a intake bolt that was too long. My block was cast in 69. I didnt time it originally. Was told that all was done to time it last time was drop the dizzy in pointed at #1 (with #1 piston at TDC) and it ran just fine. Ive tried that and it didnt work for me. Used a degree wheel and a piston stop and did what was suggested. Ran it one way marked then ran it the other and marked used difference in the two and set it there. After that the car would idle and start fine but if you did anything other than gradually push the pedal it would spit back through the carb. So I think that led alot to think the carb might have issues but I still dont think that is it. The car idles but it still sounds like its missing to me like the timing is still off albeit very close. Its a real head scratcher for sure. Cant get a clear picture of what the engine was actually in originally so because of that the info you have given me for the timing chain cover might be my ticket with that conversion chart since i dont think i have the right cover. SO we shall see.
Want to thank everyone for the time and info they have offered up to the noob at hand. Really is appreciated info. Thanks!
