The one piece oil pan gasket is one of the of best gaskets over 3 or 4 piece ones for sbcs. I never had any leaks using them on my motors.

I removed the fan and shroud, getting ready to pull the harmonic balancer. Trying to figure if I can slow the leak down.
i had to change my timing cover/balancer seal a while back.i've read about oil creeping past the seal onto the shaft and ultimately onto the outside of the balancer.before i reinstalled the balancer i put a dab of rtv on the key way portion as cheap insurance.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I pulled the harmonic balancer today. It has 2 grooves in it. I decided to get a new one. It'll be here tomorrow.

Worked on the wagon a bit yesterday. Got the new spark plugs installed, removed the distributor (I think it's one tooth off), started to make my custom spark plug wires. I had the distributor out on my workbench, and because of a lack of a gasket on the distributor shaft, there was a thick oily sludge buildup all around the base of it. UGH. Took me a while to clean the distributor itself, and I had to remove the ignition module and clean that up as well. A quick search online and I found some heat sink paste available at Autozone. Three bucks and a half can each of brake parts cleaner and WD-40 and the distributor looks new again. Unfortunately, the replacement cap/rotor I bought a while back from Rockauto isn't the right type, even though I looked it up from the donor car's specs. My HEI cap is bolted down, and the one I bought has those L-shaped spring loaded tabs. A quick trip to Oreilley's and I walked away with the correct style, with brass contacts. This one is grey, so I scuffed it up and shot it with semi-gloss black. Looks nice!
