I agree that if one were to spend decent money on a rear to upgrade right from the get-go. That being said, I have at least 1,000 drag strip launches and burnouts with a prepped 7.5" that 60 foots from 1.62-1.56. Moser 28 spline axles and a support girdle are mandatory to have any chance of survival. Also, I leave at 1400 rpms (with a tight convertor) where the motor isn't making much steam yet to further reduce stress. The less the car weighs the better the odds a 7.5" with upgrades will hold up.
