My buddy, Kenny, who builds transmissions for a living, says Type F for all his street and race transmissions. He owns a little company called US Speed Research. He has a US patent for coupling two TH400's together to make a 6-speed semi-auto. Also owns a 900 HP 32 Ford hotrod. Has been in a couple magazines, too. Brown_Gbody, you might have heard of him......everyone calls him "Elvis"....lives in the Milwaukee area (actually about 2 miles from me). I'll do what he says. He said the type F trans fluid has more friction modifiers than Dexron type 3. But, essentially, all trans fluids are the same for the most part (those are my words, not his). That John Deere fluid would work, but it also has different amounts of anti-wear agents and anti-foaming agents than the transmission fluids do. I wouldn't use those too long term. Race trans that are regularly-serviced are different, though.
