Im taking the trans and engine out today and i noticed the boxed part of the frame doesnt extend back as far on the drivers side as the passengers side. Whats up with that? Whats the deal with getting a crossmember for a 350 or 200 4r trans with dual exhaust on these cars?
The "Iceman" link above has them. There is one listed in the Jegs catalog. Gforce makes one. You can also modify the factory crossmember for dual clearance.
If im correct, its as simple as finishing the box on the frame and drilling a hole further back, then getting the typical G body dual exhaust cross member?
Yes, shouldn't be hard to make the extension.
This is it>> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-770307/
This fits 84-88 or 78-88 w/extension>> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-770302/Application/?prefilter=1
The Iceman crossmember is much lighter.>> http://www.maliburacing.com/iceman/
Just throwin it out there....I ordered a Jeg's ripoff (they take other designs and sell em as there own) crossmember...and they unit had one side/end welded on backwards. They had ME pay to ship it back. EFF their products.
I ordered one of jegs (the jegster) crossmember for a 350 and when I installed it I had to use a different set on holes in the frame on the drivers side. On the passenger side I used the holes where the factory crossmember bolted but on the drivers side there was a set of holes about 6 inches to a foot in front of the place where the factory one mounted and I just used those holes. Does that make any sense or did I install mine totally wrong?
On a 1984 and later chassis there should be holes for the 2004r cross member and the t-350/glide etc. cross member. The ones in the "back" are for the 2004r.
