I want to start off by saying I know that this isn't the way to go but, I was wondering if anyone is running spacers. I have 4.5" bs and is tight on frame with plenty of room between tire and fender. I was thinking a 1/2" spacer. I ordered them awhile ago but I'm scared to run them. I'm trying to fit a little more tire on the car. I'm running a 255/60/15 now and it's real close to the frame. I'm just worried about the studs and this is on a street car with a spool.
I ran that for a while, but wasn't running a spool. With only a 255 tire though, I don't think you'd even need 1/2". I had a 28x10.5 tire with 4.5 BS and over 12" of section width, and I only needed about 1/2" spacer, and that was just because it rubbed on turns because of the rear being off center from the factory.
Right now I have about 3/4" of space between tires and frame without the spacer. The spacers I have are 1/4" not 1/2" as I said at first oops.
Well, since you're already pushing your luck with a spool on the street, I'd stay away from those spacers. Running on the strip for years is one thing, running on the street is another. Whole lot more high speed turns on the street, and that's where the real risk lies. Having said that, I've run hundreds of thousands of street miles with those rallye brand 7/16 wheel spacers that all the parts stores carry. But not in conjunction with a spool. Ever been passed on the road by your own wheel? It's a bad feeling.
Define "real close" to the frame. Do you hear rubbing? If you don't hear rubbing, but it's close enough to take the paint off the frame in high speed turns, you're still probably OK if you keep an eye on the sidewall to make sure it doesn't get more than cosmetic damage.

3/4" is a TON of clearance. With my frame notch I've got max 1/4 to 1/2" clearance all the way around, no swaybars or anything, and no rubbing even during a turn. You'll be fine without the spacers.

When I put the 265/60/15's on the car they rubbed the frame sitting still, when the weight of the car sat back down on the wheels. I have had a wheel pass me going down the road and it's a scarey feeling, but I didn't want to spend any money on that crapy stock rearend. So I just welded the spider gears (Biggest Mistake Ever). As a result I now have a driver side rear quarter panel that needs replacing!!!
