Not much of an update, but the engine is at the builders for assembly. They are supposed to be coming up with specs for a custom ground cam. Also will be smoothing out the combustion chambers, the heads are already ported but didn't get much attention to the chambers. It should be 3 weeks hopefully till I get it back, though I've never gotten an engine back on time. My car has side pipes (again going in the vette), so have decided to have the headers modified to mate up to a set of LS header flanges then having them thermal coated.

Well the last post was Dec 18th stating I'd have the motor back in 3 weeks. Well the engine shop missed that and my budget by a mile. I just got it back this past weekend and wasn't thrilled with the bill, but oh well when does this stuff ever go as planned? The cam I ended up going with was custom ground to match the specs on the car, trans, and gearing. It ended up at .544" with a little more duration on the exhaust, the card's not in front of me. Here's a pic of my son lending a hand after I got it home...

Yeah, I'm running it with a 2400rpm convertor, 200r4 and 3.08 rear so should be about right. This car is a cruiser mainly but hopefully I didn't go too tame. Stock I think is .500" so it's at least decent step up from there. I plan on driving the car 4.5 hours to Carlisle PA for shows a couple times a year and doing alot of cruising on weekends so didn't want to go too radical.

Cool didnt know for sure what your plans were, I would gear it more for sure though 3.42-3.73...With that overdrive if would be perfect....

Yeah I agree on the gearing, the car has a 3.08 currently so that'll be my starting point. How quickly I swap to a lower gear will be decided once I drive it and see how it runs. The swap will probably be motivated more from the tired posi unit than the ratio to be honest.

Hey guys. I've decided to stop lurking as I have been since selling the Cutlass and say I'm still alive (if anyone remembers me that is). I thought this was a good time to pop back up to add some closure to this thread at least. While nothing is ever "done", this chapter is complete. I did end up staying with a carb, with the modifications to the motor, I thought a newb getting FI to work with those mods was a little daunting. FI is definitely ahead of me one day but I'll enjoy it as is first. Once I get it from the exhaust shop and get the new hood painted (original hood would no longer close), I'll post some pics and better video. Anyway, it lives! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aC9XfaihQI
