1. They are probably 7.5" not 8.5"
2. I'm not sure on the trans.
3. The width is the same.
4. Should be a bolt in.
5. They gears shouldn't be worn sharp the pin shouldn't have slop and the gear oil should be clean not full of metal shavings.
I see alot of post on bellhousing/clutch forks. My car has used a regular bellhousing or a Lakewood blowproof bellhousing for 15+ years I just had to dent My floor under the gas pedal. I have never had any problems other than NAPA's cheap clutchs and years ago 7.5" rear ends. My linkage works...
You can run them but the left one goes on the right side and the right one goes on the left. They also will make the wheel base about a inch longer. I have them on My open wheel race cars. If You swap Your spindles for the Mustang/Pinto it also takes a tie rod mod. On a dirt track car when...
I've never put a one piece floor in a Malibu but I have put them in a first gen Camaro's. A Camaro doesn't have a post like a Malibu so it will slide in the side. A Malibu will probably have to go in from the bottom. If you ever put a one peice floor in there's no going back to a two piece. I...
I have ran the Fluidamper's and the ATI's never had a problem. Both are better than a stock style damper. For some reason the stock GM 400 dampers don't last like the internal balanced dampers. I won't even run a stock damper on a stock 400 motor because I've had so many of them go bad.
I guy I know has been 7.30s in the 1/8 mile in a street car and never had any problems I think the car was a foot brake.
I broke 8 or 9 in one summer with a 4 speed most of them on the street I think my car ran in the high 7s at the time.
Mine is a 400 2 bolt converted to splayed caps. Mech roller, over 12:1 comp. I try to keep it 7000rpm and under but it's been ran for 7 years in a dirt car on Alky and makes 600+ HP. Never had any problems with any stock 400 block unless You try a 4" stroke crank it can get close to water...
I would also like to know how to paint them and when welded to the frame how much more noise and vibration do You get? I'm thinking about putting one in My car but I drive it on the street alot.
Do You have the pistons already? Don't worry about all the myths of a 400 running hot I have ran 400s for more than 15 years. If they don't run hot in a dirt car on gas they shouldn't run hot in anything. You may have to buy a good radiator and fan.
