After looking at 91hrdbody's Malibu, I may look into a 2nd set of buckets to mount in the rear as well, possibly find a set of G-Body buckets with separate headrests, or even a second set of high-back buckets... I'm pretty sure his seats are 4th gen. Camaro/Firebird ('93+)...
That was my thinking on the handle. I'm still using an old shaft I cut and drilled from a junker Mr. Gasket shifter. The stick I plan on using I believe moves the ball over another 1/2" or so more than the one Hurst calls for a G-Body, if it sits where I believe it will, it should be quite...
The LS stuff won't work with BBC or SBC. The 8.1L (same generation as the LS engines) has similar bore spacing and a couple other characteristics, but it's not the same block. You can't use the LS series setup without some type of reluctor wheel I don't believe, it's a different system than...
I'd like to undertake a project to shorten the throw of the stock style shifter, but I'm curious about the geometry of things. I believe the arms on the bottom of the shifter itself can be lengthened, essentially shortening the distance the stick itself has to travel - similar to a short-throw...
That looks great, not sure I've checked back since your recent posts. What came of the full length console you mentioned? Also, do you have any progress pics of those rear buckets? I was considering attempting to do the rear seats like the Camaro/Firebird but your setup looks much more enticing.
The car's in Michigan still... out here it just gets really hot 'cause the sun is much more intense. Wrenching days are more about this time of year through March or April.
The driveshaft is about 1" shorter for the 8.5" rear. One rear that isn't listed in the tech section is the Ford 8.8", I think it's a bit of work to fit in though because of trailing arm geometry.
I saw a few spring rates available for the front... is anything stiffer available? I have 600lb./in. Hotchkis springs right now and the ride isn't too harsh, I feel they could even be a hair stiffer, definitely stiffer in the rear, they're only 150lb./in.
That brace in the center should add quite a bit of strength, seeing that the factory the mounts are close to 6' apart. I have a notched stock crossmember in mine and the transmission bounces around like crazy.
Yeah, think I'll research some more once I have the Malibu out here. I remember somebody on here did something similar in the rear, his car was more of an audio-centric deal though.
O'reilly sells them, some of their parts are rebadged Moog stuff, I double checked the actual part numbers and got some control arm bushings much cheaper than the Moog name. It's hit or miss on the Moog thing though... I think they may be O'reilly's house brand?
Low 1st is kinda subjective depending on rearend ratio, for example I have a 2.29 but with the 1st gear in my 4-speed it's closer to running a 3.42 with many run of the mill 4-speeds. I think a 6-speed would be great with anything over 3.08, 5-speed at the least.
If I remember right the I terminal is ignition related, and doesn't necessarily have to be used. You just need a good ground, the proper order of the heavy lugs (I believe if backwards it could get stuck in the 'on' position), and the S terminal connected to the starter switch.
