I'm pretty sure dimensionally they're the same, the EFI tank should be baffled and would be a better choice. If you're doing a stock LS1, you could probably use a stock '96-'97 v8 Vortec truck pump, my understanding is they're good for up around 400hp at least.

The ECM provides a ground to the injector which causes it to fire. Do you have fuel pressure?
