Converting column to lever lock (manual trans)

I might do that if I ever get around to converting a column.

Converting column to lever lock (manual trans)

Sweet. So would the internal parts interchange? From all the columns I've opened up, from the '78 all the way to my '92 pickup look the same... I'm making my assumption from that. The way GM did their interchangability it wouldn't surprise me. I think if I do scrounge a manual trans column...

What did U do to your G-body today??

Judging from the plastic on the sides I would guess 4th gen ('93+). I took a wire wheel to the front/rear sway bars and jounce bars/GP bar. Tomorrow they should have primer and maybe paint. Also started sorting through the stuff on the 2nd floor of the pole barn, that's where most of the...

Converting column to lever lock (manual trans)

I forgot about his site having info on the column :) I may wind up tracking down a Fiero or S10 column once I get everything to Arizona.

    700r4 swap

Personally I prefer lockup, feels like I'm turning unnecessary rpm otherwise. There are some how-tos on the net for a DIY lockup without a computer, I believe there is a temperature, vacuum and 4th gear pressure switch required, along with a relay to disengage lockup when the brakes are applied...

Converting column to lever lock (manual trans)

So there is a guy that used to be on Pennock's Fiero Forum by the name of Jazzman. He wrote quite a comprehensive bit on the GM steering column... http://www.diyfiero.com/dropspot/Jazzman_Steering_Rack_Rebuild.pdf It appears to me the 'bucket' more or less interchanges, is it possible to swap...

    V6 Tires?

I would say aim for a cruise rpm around 2000. 235/60 would be a decent height, about 26" and would do a reasonable job filling the wheelwell (as opposed to looking too small). They would make around 770 revs/mile - 2000rpm in 4th at 60 would call for 2.59 specifically, but if you're planning...

F41 and aftermarket bracing diagrams (pics added)

Do you have a before/after result of the braces in the engine compartment? One of my triangulating bars got bent somehow while on the '81, I think I may have clipped a 'coon or something... I have a feeling in the future I may just make my own after realizing how thin-walled the factory braces are.

What did U do to your G-body today??

Very cool, I'm thinking I'll get one for mine. Lovin' the Xtreme wheels too (hint hint)!

    Headers & paint

Can the two be used in the same sentence? My headers are fine, but they were ceramic coated and must not have cured correctly. Anyway, I had one guy come into WalMart when I worked there and said he uses cooking grill paint regularly. I may go this route given the paint will hold up ok. I...

355 low oil pressure at idle?

Even if it's a little low I wouldn't worry too much, just a little more bearing clearance probably. My 383 with a brand new crank, bearings, etc. idles about 10-15psi hot at around 600-750rpm. By 1200rpm it's up to about 35-40psi. I measured bearing clearance at .002"-.0025" across all the...

355 low oil pressure at idle?

Fram = blech... their internal construction isn't worth it for a performance engine. All I use now is Wix, though Purolator is boasting metal internals for their filters in their new ads too.

    what dash will not fit?

They are good looking, and make for a much sportier look imo, especially when combined with the F-Body console. I think it gives much more of a cockpit feeling.

    what dash will not fit?

    If it's a G-Body, it fits.

    Body mount torque spec

I did 40 on #3 and #4 as well, just felt safer and I didn't feel like stripping the cage nuts. I torqued to 40 and then went another 1/2 turn or so. The body mounts at the firewall and the 4 in the trunk we did 45 though.

    What should i do?

The whining is due to a poor ground. Are you running a factory v-belt setup or serpentine?

Wheel adapter thickness + info, 17x9(?) F/Y-Body wheels

Re: Wheel adapter thickness, 17x9(?) F/Y-Body wheels I had jacked the car up to where the hub centerlines were the same height as the wheels, and it looks like I'd be about 2" in the rear and 2.25-2.5" in the front. The rear wheel wells woumd probably need trimming to avoid slicing the tires...

4L60/4L60E case fittings... are they the same?

Just as it says  I'm wondering if the threads on the case itself (not the side the cooler lines thread into) are the same, I may be swapping a 4L60E in place of my non-e trans that is near death. I know some of the later e's have quick-connect fittings at the trans, so I may need to...

my brake suck, i really need help

You could also try braided lines to get rid of some of the spongy pedal feel.
