Does the drip rail trim need to be removed to pull them? I haven't taken a look at them lately seeing that the car has snow on it right now, but I was thinking about replacing them.

Yeah, Vortec 4.3s are somewhere around 190-200hp, similar to TBI 305s/350s, but they make like 70 ft. lbs. less.

That's great you got it all figured out :D I'm actually going from full length to shorties because mine are hanging below the frame slightly... I don't like that. Plus it's a pain getting the starter out.

When I had my motor apart on the truck I noticed the boss for the ball stud was on the external part of the block (was already drilled/tapped)... but then again it's an SBC, BBC may be different.

That extra gear definitely gives a little more room for gearing. Plus since the T5s are so good for parts interchange, you have several different ratio sets to choose from ;)

Wow, almost a year :shock: :lol: Another option, one that I'm actually considering with mine (can use stock parts and don't have to convert to a 5-speed). 4-speed, Saginaw, wide ratio (1st-3.50, 2nd-2.47, 3rd-1.65, 4th-1.00). Take the 2.73s out and put a set of 2.29s in. With this setup...

Yup yup yup... that was before I knew what I had (it was actually a dark gray) #-o I didn't check to see if it by chance had an 8.5" either (doubtful). The dash was absolutely perfect, still soft even! The dash alone was worth the $ it was sold for :(
