has anybody had a problem with having to crank the motor for several seconds to fire it up while using a colder ranged spark plug. I have a 80 Malibu with a procharger that does it with a blow thru carb and also a 97 grand prix with a paxton novi 1000 fuel injected that does it. I dont know if there is a correlation with the cold plugs or what.

Joel,

As a spark plug engineer for Bosch I can tell you heat range has no effect on cold starts. What gap are you setting your plugs at? I would start at .032"-.035" for forced air induction. You may have weak or poor spark, a larger gap will provode for better idle stability when running, but will make for harder starts and greater chance of "blow out" when under high turbulante conditions in the chamber. You may also want to look at how much ignition advance you have during cranking.
