I BOUGHT A 83 CHEVY PICKUP EVERTHING WORKS BUT THE GAS GAUGE WHAT DO I NEED TO TEST TO SEE WHATS BAD

Easiest way IMO would be to find out which wire to the gauge cluster is for the fuel gauge, and short it to ground, should go to empty if I recall correctly. If that checks out, either the wire going to the sending unit or the sending unit itself is bad. I'm leaning towards the wire/sending unit being bad myself. If the wire goes bad that can easily give you a bad reading, as the gas gauge (along with the oil pressure and temperature gauges) are all basically analog ohmmeters.

Ya check the ground back by the tank
