don't give up on putting disks on that rear so easy. I put the LS1 rear brake setup on my 7.5 rear ( same flange as the 8.5 ) in under 3hours. With the rear caliper bolted on you don't have to worry about the c-clips coming out either.
Good luck with the build, sounds like it will be nice !!
scarebird makes the disc brake bolt on bracket. you have a design 1 axle the same housing GM used on most of the cars. Codes are stamped on the passanger side , front of axle tube. the axle was made in severial ring gear sizes. 7.5 , 7.6,8.2 and 8.5
design 2 has the 4 bolt ends . there are some 4x4 guys who sell brackets also. I have Scarebird brackets on mine and all is great . I hope this helps
new to forum. posted answer in wrong place last nite. You have a 1st design axle housing with the 3 bolt axle end. design 2 came with 4 bolt ends. Scarebird LLC has the disc brake brackets that bolt on . Speedway also make brackets that are weld on. there are a lot of 4x4 using the same axle and they sell the brackets as well. I have Scarebirds on mine and every thing works great. design 1 was used in many Gm cars from 1975 thru 1992. If you need to buy brake parts cheap look up Clearly Auto.Com
very good pricing. ring gear sizes for 10 bolt are as follows 7.5,7.6,8.2 and 8.5 there may be more but I know all these are used in the same 1 desgin axle. I hope this helps
The 3rd gen f-body drum brake rear end has the same bolt pattern as the g-bodies do. Here's what one guy did to swap rear disc on his drum brake rearend.

I haven't done it yet but it's my plan when I get to that part of my build.
