I'm probably the only guy to dyno a 229...

the choke hangs up when i do a cold start & it loads up. I haven't had a decent day (or time) to mess with it yet

Probably a bad choke pull off. They don't last forever...

Yeah that's what I'm told i need. Trying to locate one locally is like trying to find a thermostat for a super beetle...

I got another cam for it. Crower had a street cam on clearance and after running some numbers on my old desktop dyno it will work much better then the Herbert cam I already have. Basically ill get gains everywhere and especially where I normally drive. My Herbert cam loses everywhere compared to stock until about 4k then it makes big power. Not particularly useful for what I use the car for.

That is awesome....I had the 229 in my last Bu, it was anemic....now I am curious what it would have dyno'd at.....I love to see people doing something different though!

Man when I first drove her home it was laughingly slow...now she is perky considering the 2.41s. Not fast by no means but not bad.

Most people question the bend on #3...its actually much smoother then it looks. When blowing shop air thru all the ports, #2 actually is the worst one with how i had to immediately go upwards with the tubing, while #3 flows strong. Ohwell came out pretty good for in our cramped garage with a hacksaw & jackstands. I didnt realize how off to the side i had the collector on the passenger side until i got under it on a real life. Driving 40 miles to work open header was fun too. The lengths are pretty close to equal. The passenger side is 27, 24 & 23" while driver side is 27, 27.5 & 25" iirc.

With the O2 sensor so far away from the ports, you should install a heated sensor. You are not likely reaching closed-loop mode when at idle. When cruising, does it reach closed loop mode?

Wait, is it an '81? or do you just have a wide-band sensor for tuning?

This is all very cool. What about finding a cast iron 4 barrel intake from a 4.3 , so you can let it breathe? I had one from an 86 GMC full size pick up that came factory with a 4.3 and a column shift manual 3 speed trans. I stupidly let the intake go when I converted to a v8.
