Can someone tell me exactly what Jeep to get a steering shaft out of to put in my 78. Going to junk yard tomorrow and I would like to pick one u. Need year and model. Thanks.

There is no direct Jeep intermediate shaft swap for a 78. You need to either change to a 79+ steering column or swap the lower half from a 79+ into your existing column. Then you can use a 96 Grand Cherokee intermediate shaft. I've heard Astro/Safari van and GM 1500 series truck intermediate shafts swap, but I have no experience with them...

The GM shafts are clocked incorrectly. Someone on here is reclocking them and selling them.

MC87SS is an expert on Jeep shafts and the GM shafts. As stated above, the 78's columns are splined and will not accept this upgrade...timo22
