Does anyone have a part number for shifter linkage they have used. I have a big block and a M-21 but can't seem to find anyone who shows a part number for linkage for a 1980. I assume I could use linkage for an older model but want to make sure before I buy it. What have you guys used with your Muncie's? It would be great if I could get a part number and a company too. I need to sell the old shifter and linkage too if anyone is needing Saginaw original parts. Thanks in advance!!

Hey Man,
I have an M-20 in mine and it has a Hurst Competition Plus on it,
the trans/shifter combo came out of a 66 Malibu so I assume that's the original application, the biggest problem is it wouldn't come out of the floor the same place as the 81 shifter, mine was v-6/3spd,but I imagine that's the same as the 4spd Saggy,I cut my shifter hump loose from the floor and moved it back like 3 or 3 1/2 inches,it did clear the bench seat with it all the way back but not by much but as I've put buckets in I wasn't much concerned about it,although the Comp Plus works good I've been playing around with the idea of a Hurst Super Shifter as I've always wanted one, probably have to move the hump again if I do but well you know,I don't think you'll find a shifter that'll work with the G-body factory location as the Saggy's reverse lever is on the trans cover
and they mounted the shifter on the tailhousing mounting bolts where the reverse lever on the Muncie is on the tailhousing so the shifter has to be behind it,I think you could probably mount the stock shifter to a Muncie as they're similar size but you'd have to come up with a really funky reverse linkage to mate to the Muncie reverse lever and of course modify the 1st thru 4th linkages to fit but then you'd have to come up with a really funky reverse linkage to mate to the Muncie's reverse lever,I won't say it can't be done but well you know where there's a will there's a way! As for me the moving the hump made better sense,
hope this helps! Later,KillerDave

I don't know what the number is but I'm guessing it came out of the 66
that the trans came out of,it was interesting as I did it several years ago and didn't have any idea about computers or this website or much else,I just knew the housing for the small clutch 6 wasn't going to work and I had a really funky s-shaped thowout fork and I had to get it put together,as it turns out I just used a saw and pared about a quarter inch off the bottom edge of the fork hole in the housing, fork hooked on the ball and into the bearing and liked up with the linkage, seems to work ok but does have a bit of a snatch right when you get pressure on the throwout bearing,I always know it wasn't just right but you know how it works when you're in a bind, anyway now that I'm computerized and edumacated with all this wonderfull Malibu Knowlage I'll be aquiring a Lakewood 15015 (I think that's the number) and puttin it in there one of these days, expensive but I like expensive toys especially when I get around to puttin some motor in it and playing hard with it,anyway I didn't mean to ramble I just get carried away sometimes,
Later,KillerDave

Use the linkage to match the trans..........not the car.

I just used the Hurst SUper Street Shifter and the linkage that is meant for that shifter. In car it fit with no problem (had a bench in it). But I did have to pound the transmission tunnel a bit to clear the linkage.

The shifter itself isn't matched to the trans. The installation kit has the mounting brackets & linkage rods & varies by vehicle. I don't think Hurst has an application specifically for G-bodies so whatever istall kit you use you'll propbably need to relocate the shifter hole back.

Here's one from Hurst, but won't work with console.

That's for a stock Saginaw & won't fit a Muncie.

But I found this on a Camaro forum:

"Just finished mounting a Hurst Indy shifter for a Muncie on a Saginaw 4 speed. The primary difference between the two transmissions(shifter wise) is the location of the reverse shifter arm and the length of the reverse shift rod. You will need to shorten the Saginaw rod a bit and bend it a little or you could order a new Muncie reverse rod from Hurst; about $20(been there, done that)."

So with a little work it can be done. But then again like I said. Just get a Hurst Super Street Shifter and all should be good. Unless you're trying to make it work in a factory console.
