ive got the stock 7.5" with 2.73's. not looking to drag race it or anything, just looking to be able to light up both tires should i feel the need. curious as to what my options are as far as vehicles i could get a posi unit to just drop in. i dont mind sticking with the 2.73's for now, at least until i upgrade to a new rear end

find a pre 1988 26 spline axle S-10, camaro, or GM minivan with the rear end code G80.

G80 is just the designation for posi/limited slip. The vehicle application denotes what it actually uses I believe.

Correct... Trucks usually received the gov lock posi units and the cars received traditional performance posi units cone, clutch., torsen units. Jim

im looking at purchasing a rear end posi unit from an 85 grand prix. however i dont know if its a series 2 or 3 carrier. there are some numbers stamped on the carrier itself are 11783 and 1054823. the ring gear had W GM 560138 21/48 5 83 stamped on it. any ideas?

The 21 /48 is the tooth count for the pinion / ring gears
48 divide by 21 gives you the ratio of 2.2857142 or rounded up 2.29
5 83 is the month and the year. Now what it is doing in a 85 grand prix??/ who knows. Probably the whole rear was replaced in the 85 to an 83 at one time in its life.

Yes sir, 7.5 car Auburn factory 2 series limited slip posi unit.
What ratio were you going to use? we have thick gears for that unit if you need a price. 3.42 3.73 4.10 Jim
