what is this for on 79 Malibu?

Usually broken, too. Lets you put slack in the belt when the door is closed, and as mentioned, releases the belt when opened. HATE that newer stuff does not have this feature,

    Door Panel Swap Question

You may need an additinal strap for the pull to screw onto. Some of the different panels use them. Not a problem if you're pulling them from a donor, but if you're buying from someone else, just something to be aware of.

    Malibu/El Camino Door Skins

DonM, thanks for the info on rockauto, I buy lots of stuff there but didn't look to see the doors/skins before. Best price for them by far, and their truck frt charges are a lot better than the ebay sellers.

    Rear window Rattling?

Be better to cut it out and reset it. The rest of it is going to come loose eventually. Our glass guy gets $45-65 to do it, depending on the vehicle.

Should be a black one (tannish on the inside of channel) on the roof and runs down the windshield pillar.

    Roof rail gasket help

Originals are glued into the channels that are screwed to the roofrails. Repros don't really need glue, but some people use it. Soffseal brand worked for me. You WILL need to adjust the windows after installation for a snug weathertight seal, just as one did with the GM weatherstrips when they...

how to paint sheet metal that over Laps

Just my opinion, paint the areas that will be covered with epoxy, then clean out the plug weld holes before welding. An old spotweld cutter can easily be modified to clean out the holes just where the weld will be. Some automakers now specify that weld-through is NOT to be used (Chrysler...

    Door shell

You'll want to loosely install the up-stops in the new door after installing the glass. Then, you raise the glass until it gets a good seal on the roofrail weatherstrip and tighten the up-stops. Aside from that, it's pretty much a strightforward remove and install swap. I find it easier to...

Maybe Lemans...the "L" shaped ones are different, though. All the other G cars used a different panel.

The above or this Steck tool are used for our windshield/backglass moldings. We mostly use the plastic tools for interior trim work

    dash or no dash

I would say depends on intended use of the car. Personally not a fan of fabricated dashes. VFN makes a fiberglass replica of the existing dash. They can be restored (pretty spendy) You could try filling the cracks with a 2 part composite and using spray texture to refresh it (more budget...
